Does every cut glass edge require grinding?
Yes, absolutely. Whether the glass is cut via CNC diamond scoring, waterjet, or even ultra-precise laser cutting, the raw cut edge will still possess microscopic flaws, sharp corners, or structural vulnerabilities. Edge grinding is a mandatory process to eliminate Sub-Surface Damage (SSD), ensure precise dimensional tolerances, and guarantee that the glass will survive the extreme stress of the subsequent tempering process without shattering.
Which edge profile is best for display cover glass?
A Flat Edge with Arris (C-Chamfer) is the industry standard. It prevents edge chipping during assembly and is cost-effective. For frameless touchscreens, a Pencil (Round) edge is preferred for ergonomics.
Can you process complex, custom-shaped external contours?
Absolutely. Our multi-axis CNC machining centers can profile circular, oval, asymmetrical, and highly complex freeform geometries based on your drawing files.
What is your MOQ and sample lead time?
We support everything from 1-off prototypes to mass production. Sample lead times are project dependent, typically ranging from 7 to 15 days depending on material availability and complexity.
Can you grind the edge of glass after it has been tempered?
No. Tempering process locks immense stress inside the glass. Grinding or cutting tempered glass will cause it to shatter instantly. All edging must be completed before tempering.
What is the difference between grinding and polishing?
Grinding uses diamond wheels to shape the glass, control dimensions, and remove dangerous micro-cracks (matte finish). Polishing uses resin/cerium oxide to make that ground edge transparent and smooth.
How should I call out chamfers on my drawing?
Please specify both the angle and the width (or depth). For example: “45° × 0.5mm chamfer all around.”
What drawing file formats do you accept?
We prefer 2D CAD files (.DXF, .DWG, .PDF) for standard perimeters, and 3D files (.STEP, .IGES) for complex stepped or 2.5D/3D curved edges.
